You have certainly heard the Holy Spirit compared to a dove, but did you know that in early Christianity the Celtic Christians compared the Holy Spirit to a wild goose? A respected animal in that time, the wild goose is untamed and ungovernable. A wild goose will attack when threatened and go where it wants. A wild goose is, well, wild. Wild and free.
In the same way, the Holy Spirit cannot be contained or bound. The Holy Spirit upsets the
status quo and leads us in unexpected directions. The Holy Spirit tears down walls and
introduces us to new people and new places. The Holy Spirit breaks our chains and takes us
on new adventures. Surely five years ago, all of us at Revive did not know that Revive was
coming. But the Spirit did. And the Spirit is inviting us still to catch the wind that will carry us forward.
For the next five weeks, we’ll consider what it means to follow after this wild and free Holy Spirit. We will invite the Spirit in. And we will ask the Spirit to strengthen in us the spark and the vision for the path that God has before us.
